clos-ette case: FEYT's Ferebee Taube & Eleanor Ylvisaker

Posted on June 21, 2012 by Melanie Charlton

Ferebee Taube and Eleanor Ylvisaker, the co-founders of, call their new personal styling site “the future of style.” We call it just plain genius. Each week, the fashion world darlings curate a series of gorgeous outfits culled from the likes of Net-a-Porter and Shopbop. Later this summer, they’ll introduce a fancy-pants algorithmic technology that recommends styles based on your personal profile (and a slew of other features that take the guesswork out of shopping). The only problem? We find ourselves lusting after pretty much every item these gals feature. Here, we grabbed a moment with the enterprising style-setters to get a glance inside their closets and talk trends, must-haves, and more.

How would you describe your personal style?

Ferebee Taube: Eclectic. I never wear one designer head-to-toe, and I don’t really fall into any particular style label. I’m a mix of classic, edgy, avant-garde, and boho. I prefer mixing labels, price points, and styles to make an outfit truly my own.

Eleanor Ylvisaker: I would describe my style as classic casual, but modern. I love fashion and incorporating current pieces into a timeless wardrobe that is not so trend-driven.

What’s the most cherished item in your wardrobe?

FT: Probably my black leather Balenciaga motorcycle jacket. It was a gift from my husband while we were still dating. It has survived burns, spills, and lots of wear and tears, but I keep going back to it, even after all these years –mostly because the more I wear it, the more comfy it becomes!

EY: I would have to say my 3x1 custom-fit skinny jeans. In terms of percentage of wear they would definitely be the top item by far. I have had them for over a year and I wear them at least 4 times a week, on trips to the park with the kids paired with my limited edition Soludus for Opening Ceremony, and a Sandro t-shirt, and dressed up with a Balenciaga wedge and Celine blazer for evenings out. They are the most versatile, well-fitting clothing item I own.

What are the rules you shop and dress by?

FT: I don't tend to be trendy. If I’m going to spend a lot on an item, it must be something that is going to last more than just a season.  It’s more about knowing your individual style and wearing what works for you. I also try to shop according to what makes sense with my lifestyle. Because I work at a fashion startup, I certainly don't need to own suits or typical work wear, so I find that I buy lots of t-shirts, jeans, blazers, and heels.

EY: I try not to be overly trend-driven.  I stick to what works for me by staying true to my personal style, and interpreting changing fashions within that sensibility. When I invest in a serious piece, I make sure it is a timeless staple that will transcend the passing seasonal look.

What’s at the top of your shopping wish-list?

FT: Right now, I am loving bathing suits by Lisa Marie Fernandez, Sandro’s printed crepe playsuit, and jeans by Mother. I am also loving Vineet Bahl printed tops!

EY: I am loving mixing prints!  I love the printed Clover Canyon shorts and Vineet Bahl printed tops.  I'm also obsessed with The Row’s navy and light blue Garton color-block blazer.
